SparePart

Used parts were the core of MG City's original business - the reason for our being.

The 1950s and early '60s were times when it was uneconomical to repair damaged MGs - or to rebuild dismantled examples.

MG City began life as Abingdon Spares.

Used parts from Abingdon Spares kept many MGs on the road when most were everyday work cars, even though many new parts were soon obsolete and often unobtainable at any price. Many parts were obtained through careful dismantling of those MGs which were then considered beyond economic repair - and before MG restoration had taken off.

Dismantling any MG is unusual these days - enthusiasts are now intent on restoring them, either themselves or with the aid, advice and expertise of specialists like MG City.

The transition from used to new parts was both logical and necessary.

As factory-supplied and used parts became harder to secure, the remanufacturing of parts by specialists such as MG City became essential.

Items like rubber and chrome fittings have largely predictble life spans - they have 'use-by dates' which are easily recognized by MG City's specialists. In these cases only quality new items are acceptable for any restoration project - for safety, mechanical security, authenticity or appearance reasons.

MG City started when the MGA was new and the B was barely a glimmer in Abingdon's eye.

Today we carry a huge 'on shelf' parts range for all MGs including reconditioned exhange units (e.g. Motors, Gearboxes, Diffs, Calipers, Kingpins and Brake & Clutch Cylinders).

MG City is also a distributor of the worldwide Moss Distributors organisation. The Moss organisation has specialised in supplying MG parts for even longer than MG City's 40 years.

The Moss catalogues do not cover MGC or GTV8 - however, both have many parts in common with the MGB, and we can usually secure parts for these models through our many other sources even if they are not a stock item.

Used Spares Today

MG City maintains several storage centres brimming with near unobtainable MG parts. Our stocks cover any model from a 1928 M Type through the entire T Series to the A and B, Midget and Sprite.

These resources are invaluable too in ensuring that our restoration section can most affordably and expeditiously complete any restoration, right through to the ultimate concourse example for our most discerning customers

MG City has further remarkable parts sources all over the world. These businesses mean we can locate and secure parts we might not have in our own vast stocks - try us, you could be pleasantly surprised.

MG Midget & Austin Healey Sprite Parts

As for all MG models we carry a wide range of parts for all the variations on these two Abingdon-built cars.

There is a specific Moss catalogue for the Midget and Sprite.

MG City's specialists can also repair and restore all Midget and Sprite models including replacing rusted panels or other corrosion-victim components - no job is too large or too small.
